In collaboration with Locals in South London, this large-scale tapestry sculpture was made from locally-sourced materials and second-hand clothes. The installation evolved and was activated as residents were invited to contribute items that connect them to their background, cultural lineage, religious affiliations or lived experiences. These items were used for a performance with children from the community in South London. Àdápé (a composite of Yoruba words meaning ‘to create’ and ‘perfection’) is a space to forge and celebrate collective identities outside a vociferous narrative of divisive nationalism.
