After the Last Supper examines the evolving relationship between Africa and China. Referencing Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper, the project uses the painting’s biblical themes as a metaphor to engage in a discourse about the exploitation of African resources. Drawing on my research at the British Museum, National Museum in Lagos and Smithsonian Online Museum, the project incorporates AI-powered 3D scans of African artifacts and Chinese blue and white (Qinqhua) Ming dynasty wares and painting techniques. These scans, combined with imagery of colonial Africa, Nigerian daily life, and the impacts of mining drawn from diverse archives, culminate in the production of textiles, ceramics, sculptural and performance elements for an interdisciplinary installation project.
